ABOUT US

Welcome to your neighborhood chef-owned market and café, where every visit is a fresh, local experience. We combine the convenience of a small grocer with the creativity of a restaurant—offering seasonal produce, farm-fresh dairy, sustainably raised meats, and artisan pantry staples from trusted Georgia farms and makers. Our in-house butcher, baker, and culinary team create chef-prepared meals, from breakfast frittatas to dinner entrées, all crafted with ingredients pulled straight from the market. Pair your meal with hand-selected wines, craft cocktails, or locally brewed beer, and enjoy events like wine socials, beer flights, and “Meet the Vintner” tastings.

Whether you’re picking up healthy prepared meals, ordering personal-shopper delivery, or joining us for cooking classes and community events, we make everyday shopping inspiring and effortless. With gluten-free and kosher options, a full-service café and bar, and a commitment to supporting local farms and sustainable practices, we’re redefining what a Georgia neighborhood market can be—fresh, natural, and rooted in community.

Meet Chef Greg

Chef Greg Lipman, owner/ founder

Originally from Boston, Chef Greg Lipman discovered his passion for food at a young age, inspired by his mother, Betty, and the simple yet profound phrase, “Food is love.” After honing his skills through high school culinary classes and formal training at the New England Culinary Institute in Vermont, he began his career in Boston, specializing in Italian cuisine. By age thirty, his journey took him aboard a yacht with a classically trained French chef, sailing across the world and expanding his culinary perspective. Moving to Atlanta, Chef Greg worked at Maxim Prime at the Glenn Hotel and later as Chef at Alon’s Bakery and Market before opening his own restaurant, Piastra. In 2019, he had the honor of cooking at the James Beard House in New York, a milestone that reflects his dedication to excellence. At Piastra, Chef Greg emphasizes sourcing from local farmers and artisans, blending his sommelier expertise to create a celebrated dining experience recognized with multiple awards from Wine Spectator Magazine, Best of Cobb, and Best of Georgia. A proud supporter of Georgia Grown, Georgia Organics, and the Slow Food Movement, he continues to champion sustainability, authenticity, and the belief that food is, at its core, an expression of love.

BETTY BAHL

Born in Iowa and having lived in eight major cities across both coasts, Betty Bahl brings a wealth of life and business experience to her role at Piastra, where she works alongside her son, Chef Greg. With a background in teaching, financial planning, and running her own manufacturing company, Betty found her true calling in hospitality—creating spaces where guests feel welcome and cared for. At Piastra, she focuses on smooth operations and a warm, inviting atmosphere, complementing Chef Greg’s dedication to culinary excellence. Together, they have built a restaurant that not only reflects Greg’s milestone achievement of cooking at the James Beard House in 2019 but also his ongoing commitment to sourcing from local farmers and artisans. With Betty’s organizational skill and love for hospitality paired with Greg’s culinary vision and award-winning wine program, Piastra had become a celebrated dining experience recognized with multiple honors, all rooted in their shared belief that food and hospitality bring people together.

Betty and Greg bring their passion for hospitality and community to Asher & Rose creating a modern grocery experience.

Community Experience

At Asher and Rose, we believe a market is more than a place to shop—it’s a hub for connection, learning, and celebration. Our community experience brings people together through hands-on cooking classes, seasonal dining, and healthy living workshops designed to inspire and educate.

Families are welcome to explore our kids’ garden and participate in fun cooking classes, while adults can join menu planning sessions, food and wine tastings, and curated pairings that highlight local flavors. Meet the farmers who grow your food, enjoy live music and storytelling, and take part in arts, crafts, and community events that make every visit memorable. From monthly meetups to special seasonal experiences, Asher and Rose creates a vibrant space where food, learning, and connection come together—supporting sustainable practices and a thriving local community every step of the way.
